A little more about this confectionery

The Karachi Halwa is no stranger to us in India. It is seen adorning the display shelves at sweet shops all across the country in different shapes and colours. It is made by cooking together corn flour, ghee, nuts or seeds and sugar until it thickens into a glutinous mixture which is then cut and served. While it is a popularly loved delicacy, it often becomes a little too heavy to consume due to the size it is cut in and is almost always left half eaten. We wanted to hero this Mithai all over again, and making it into a bite sized snack was our first thought.

After a lot of research we thought that the western sour gummy bears would be a perfect format to experiment with because it resonates with so many of us. While our Halwa is made following the traditional technique, what we do differently at the Sweet Shop is that we add a range of seeds like poppy, pumpkin, sunflower and magaz for that enjoyable bite. We then cut them into small cubes and toss them in a citric sugar mix to resemble the texture of a sour candy, break down the sweetness and add that much loved sweet and sour pucker. Our gummies are also packaged in a small little box that you can carry around wherever you go.

Perfecting the Karachi Halwa itself was the most complex step while developing our recipe. Our chefs spent months just perfecting the texture, elasticity and flavour!
